Every day with Jahmya is a reminder of strength, faith, and resilience. Her journey in the hospital has been filled with countless battles, but today, we celebrate a pivotal moment: a change in her ECMO support—a sign of hope and progress to give her the best quality of life.
What Is ECMO?
ECMO, or Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, is a life-saving machine that takes over the work of the heart and lungs when they need a break to heal. In Jahmya’s case, she was initially placed on VA ECMO, which supports both the heart and lungs. This was necessary when her heart wasn’t pumping effectively and her lungs needed rest.
The Shift: From Heart to Lungs
Over time, Jahmya’s heart began to make progress. Her medical team noticed signs of recovery—improved heart function, better blood pressure, and more stable rhythms 🙌🏾🙌🏾. With her heart showing signs of healing, the next step was to transition ECMO support to focus on her lungs alone.
This meant switching from VA (veno-arterial) ECMO to VV (veno-venous) ECMO. It’s a technical change, but emotionally, it’s a huge victory. It means her heart is starting to beat stronger on its own. Now, the machine will support just her lungs as they work to recover, both her right and left lung.

This transition is a turning point. It’s not just about machines or medical protocols—it’s about progress. It means her body is slowly finding its rhythm again. It means her spirit, her fight, and her story continue to move forward.
There are still challenges ahead, and her lungs need time to strengthen—but this moment shows that healing is happening, step by step.
Let this change in her ECMO support be a symbol of what’s possible. Healing takes time, but with faith, medicine, and a whole lot of love—miracles are in motion.
