From Purpose to Legacy: The Story Behind Uniqly Made Foundation

In April 2019, I launched Uniqly Made Foundation with one mission in mind: to make the journey of raising my daughter, Jahmya, and navigating life with complex medical needs a little easier. Not just for us, but for other families walking a similar path.

At the time, I wasn’t thinking about building a legacy.

I was thinking about survival.

I was thinking about doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, therapies, surgeries, medical equipment, insurance battles, and the emotional weight that comes with caring for a child with complex health needs. I was thinking about how lonely the journey felt and how desperately families like mine needed a village.

So, I built one.

Uniqly Made Foundation was born from a mother’s love and a mother’s determination. It became a space where families could find support, resources, understanding, and community. It became proof that even in the hardest seasons, we don’t have to walk alone.

What I didn’t know then was that God was allowing me to build something that would one day carry my daughter’s legacy.

When Jahmya transitioned to Heaven on May 27, 2025, my world shattered.

The very child who inspired the creation of Uniqly Made Foundation was no longer physically here. The little girl whose strength taught me resilience. The little girl whose smile could light up the darkest room. The little girl who unknowingly helped create a community for countless families.

For a while, I wondered how I would continue.

How do you keep building when your heart is broken?

How do you continue a mission when the reason behind it is no longer sitting beside you?

But then I realized something.

Jahmya is still the reason.

She always will be.

Today, Uniqly Made Foundation looks different than it did in 2019. While we continue supporting children and families with unique abilities and medical complexities, we have also expanded into grief support through initiatives like UniqGrief Garden and our growing community of UniqAngel families.

The mission evolved because my journey evolved.

What began as helping families navigate life with medically complex children has now become helping families navigate life after loss as well.

Every cape we deliver.

Every comfort bear we provide.

Every support group we host.

Every grief journal we distribute.

Every prayer spoken.

Every family embraced.

Jahmya’s fingerprints are all over it.

Her life mattered.

Her story matters.

Her legacy matters.

Sometimes people ask me how I find the strength to keep going. The truth is, some days I don’t feel strong at all. Some days I am simply taking one breath at a time. But I continue because I know what this community meant to me when Jahmya was here, and I know what it means to me now that she’s gone.

Uniqly Made Foundation is no longer just the nonprofit I created because of my daughter.

It is the living legacy of a little girl who changed lives simply by being here.

And as long as God gives me breath, I will continue the work.

Not because the grief is gone.

Not because the pain no longer exists.

But because love continues.

And so does legacy.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever celebrated.

Forever 14. Forever Jahmya. Forever Uniqly Made. 🦋❤️💙💛
